Nostalgia relived with models of RAFand RNLAF aircraft, buildings and visiting aircraft in Laarbruch's history. All RAF model aircraft have authentic squadron markings, numbers and ident codes (by courtesy of Mr. Jürgen Cüppers, Heinsberg) taken from aircraft that were once stationed at Laarbruch. The RNLAF aircraft markings, numbers etc. are also authentic, I`ve gleaned them from the net.
RAF ( Royal Air Force ) RNLAF ( Royal Netherlands Air Force )
I`ve scratchbuilt the Revetment, the old ATC tower the Hanger, the HAS and further buildings and they are as far as possible authentic.
The models and buildings will be updated as and when they are finished.
At present Manfred Beckers and I, are working on three phases at RAF Laarbruch, ably assisted by my wife Anne, Steve Hill and Michael Martens:-
1. 1954 - 1972
2. 1972 - 1984
3. 1984 - 1999
These phases will be shown as DIORAMAS
I will also be adding a further diorama called B100 (GOCH).
This was the first RAF airfield constructed in Germany following the allied advance after the D-Day landings.
This airfield was constructed on the terrain of the latter day RAF Laarbruch, and was operational for about six weeks between March and April 1945. It was left after the advance continued.
All models etc. can be viewed in the RAF Laarbruch Museum. www.laarbruch-museum.net
Aircraft Decals were obtained and/or sponsored by AERO SPEZIAL, Modellbauversand www.aero-spezial-modellbauversand.de
Phase 1. 1954 - 1972
All of the Aircraft shown had to be made from model kits, the majority of which were difficult to obtain and fairly expensive, due to being very OLD!!. Some model kits were kindly donated by Rolf Zureck.
Sometimes the model kits were over 30 or 40 years old. Because of this I had to purchase the kits mainly by auction , with the sellers being in England.
However, some models came from further afield!!!
